What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that a dentist places in the front of your teeth. With this placement, any cosmetic concerns such as sizing, chips, and gaps are hidden. At East Highland Dental, we use durable porcelain for our veneers. Our custom made ones will give you a natural-looking and stunning smile.

What Are The Benefits Of Veneers?
- damaged teeth such as chips and cracks
- noticeable teeth gaps
- crooked or oddly shaped teeth
- teeth that are yellowing or discoloring
- eroding tooth enamel
How Does The Dentist Place Veneers?
Dr. Shah generally places the veneers throughout two visits. At the first visit, Dr. Shah will prep your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel. To ensure a natural look, a mouth impression is made to create an accurate model of your teeth. Dr. Shah will also take photos and Digital X-rays of your mouth while using a color guide for shade matching. At the end of your first visit, Dr. Shah will place temporary ones until the permanent ones are ready.
How Long Can Porcelain Veneers Last?
Like anything else, Veneers will last as long as you take good care of them. On average, veneers can last seven to twenty years with the proper care and upkeep. It can have excessive wear and tear if you eat hard foods or grind your teeth. With regards to the teeth grinding, a mouthguard can be prescribed to help protect your teeth.
Will My Insurance Cover The Procedure?
Does It Hurt?
Getting veneers is painless. Our dentist will use numbing agents when he needs to remove some of your enamel. For the placement itself, it is pain-free.
Is There Any Sensitivity After Placement?
Some patients might experience minor sensitivity for the first few days since there’s a small enamel removal amount. Our dentist will place temporary veneers after the enamel removal to shield this sensitive area.
Are Veneers Permanent?
In certain regards, veneers are permanent since the process requires irreversible enamel removal. The veneers themselves will eventually need replacement.
Will They Stain Or Change Color?
Nope, porcelain doesn’t stain or change its color. Teeth whitening treatments aren’t effective on veneers as well.
Can Veneers Develop Cavities?
Teeth with veneers can develop cavities just like your other teeth. Daily brushing and flossing will help your chances of not developing cavities.
What Are The Differences Between Veneers and Crowns?
While both can help with a tooth’s look, both have different purposes. Veneers are strictly for cosmetic uses and don’t provide any extra benefit beyond aesthetics. Crowns are useful for both looks and function. While veneers are placed in the front of the tooth, a dental crown surrounds the whole tooth. This fundamental difference provides protection and better function for a damaged tooth.

How much do dental veneers cost?
The price of porcelain dental veneers ranges from $1,000 to $3,500 per tooth. The price may vary depending on your cosmetic dentist’s experience and the level of customization of your veneers. Tooth preparation is included in the cost of the veneer procedure. If additional procedures, for example, gum contouring, are required, the total cost may increase. A full smile makeover, which typically includes 6 to 10 dental veneers, may cost from $6,000 to $30,000, depending on the number and type of additional procedures.
Am I a good candidate for dental veneers?
Dental veneers are often used to solve one of the following cosmetic issues:
- Severely discolored or stained teeth
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Minor gaps between the teeth
- Teeth of uneven length
- Slightly crooked or misshapen teeth
- Exposed teeth roots
- Worn-out teeth
Dental veneers can also be used to elongate the teeth to treat a “gummy smile”.
A good candidate for dental veneers typically has good oral health, with no active gum disease or tooth decay. If these issues are present, they must be addressed before dental veneers can be placed.
Do veneers damage your natural teeth?
Dental veneers do not damage natural teeth if the procedure is performed correctly and responsibly. Your natural teeth will have living nerves and function normally. However, veneers permanently change your natural teeth, as some of their enamel must be filed down to fit. Our teeth cannot survive without their enamel and will need to be permanently protected with veneers or crowns. Therefore, dental veneers are irreversible.
Do veneers look natural?
Yes, porcelain veneers look natural because this material is slightly translucent and reflective, just like the enamel of our natural teeth. The added subtle textures to the surface of your veneers mimic the appearance of your natural teeth. Overly uniform veneers will look bulky and unnatural.
For veneers to look natural, they must match the shape and color of your natural teeth. Veneers that are too white will inevitably look fake. Another important point to consider is the shape of your veneers. Your dentist has to take your natural anatomy into account to make veneers that are neither too big nor too small.
How long do dental veneers last?
Porcelain dental veneers are quite durable and stain-resistant. They can last for 7 to 15 years, depending on your oral health, dietary habits, and the effectiveness of your dental hygiene routine. Once your veneers wear down or become discolored, you will need to replace them with a new set.
How do I care for dental veneers?
To ensure that your dental veneers last for a long time be sure to:
- Follow a consistent daily oral hygiene routine. If you get cavities or gum disease, veneers might need to be removed for treatment, then replaced with a new set.
- Avoid staining foods and beverages, such as red wine, black coffee and tea, beetroot, and products with artificial dyes. If you consume such foods and drinks, brush your teeth or rinse your mouth immediately after the meal.
- Wear a mouth guard if you play contact or extreme sports, or if you have bruxism.
- Avoid using your teeth as tools to prevent chipping or cracking your veneers.
